The educational model
Our educational model integrates active teaching methods and experiential learning within a curriculum designed to help children make sense of the complexities of the world.
Pupils play an active role in class life: they collaborate, experiment, reflect and help to design learning activities, with clear, shared objectives aimed at developing key European competences.

The Curriculum
The curriculum combines the National Guidelines with the IB approach, through carefully designed activities that help children make connections, ask questions and make sense of what they are learning.
Knowledge grows over time, deepens and develops into practical skills.
The curriculum at YIES Primary School is based on the integration of the National Guidelines issued by the Ministry of Education and the Primary Years Programme (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate.
The teaching team collaboratively designs learning experiences through interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary units of inquiry, ensuring that learning outcomes are met and catering to different learning styles. In this way, the children achieve the set objectives and acquire skills across all subject areas through an experiential, engaging approach that takes into account each child’s potential.
IB Primary Years Programme
YIES is certificated with PYP – Primary Years Programme di International Baccalaureate.
The PYP is an internationally recognised programme for its ability to make children active participants in their own learning journey. It promotes inquiry-based and experiential learning, with a focus on collaborative processes.
Teachers design ‘invitations’: contextual modules packed with tools and materials that enable children to achieve learning objectives in a cross-curricular way.
The Investigation Units integrate language, mathematics, science, art, social studies and physical education into a holistic approach that is consistent with the Becoming Education model.
Bilingualism: communicating across the globe
In primary school, bilingualism takes on a more structured form. English becomes an everyday skill: pupils learn to read, write and communicate with increasing confidence.
Learners use English to explore science, art, literature and interdisciplinary topics in a natural and engaging way.

Cambridge Certifications
Primary pupils are prepared to sit the Cambridge English exams, which recognise the communication skills they have acquired and offer international recognition.

Outdoor education
Even within the Primary School, the outdoor environment is a prime learning space.
The children observe phenomena, collect data, explore the local area and link what they see to the topics covered in class.
Social and emotional learning (SEL)
SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) helps children to recognise, understand and manage their emotions.
Emotional intelligence is a vital asset in both school and personal life, and it needs to be practised every day.
At YIES, we have decided to dedicate one hour of teaching time per week to this skill, because we want to nurture individuals who are capable of respecting themselves, others and the environment. Individuals who know how to communicate effectively and tackle any challenge.
During SEL lessons, led by a specially trained teacher, the children practise communicating respectfully, resolving conflicts and building positive relationships.
Nutrition education
To grow up as adults who are able to eat well, we need to develop a healthy, curious and joyful relationship with food from an early age.
For us, lunchtime is both an educational and a social experience. Our children are also involved in assessing the quality of the school canteen
Teachers are trained to guide the children through this process, and throughout the year we focus on understanding the food pyramid and on reducing food waste.
Taste Club
One of our school’s proudest achievements: the Taste Club is a group of parents involved in evaluating school meals through tasting.
Becoming Education offers training on healthy eating to parents who wish to play an active role. We welcome them as partners in the children’s wellbeing.
