Our spaces
L’ambiente come Terzo Educatore
The spaces at YIES are designed to welcome, inspire and promote well-being. Each environment is designed to foster independence, social interaction and curiosity.
These spaces are not merely physical spaces, but genuine learning environments that help children feel part of the school community.
Spaces
Gym
The gym is a spacious, bright room dedicated to physical activity. Here, children take part in physical exercises, team games and coordination activities. The body becomes a form of communication: they communicate by running, jumping and working together.
Classrooms
The classrooms are flexible spaces, designed to support active and collaborative learning. The spaces can be adapted to the group’s needs: movable tables, accessible materials, and dedicated areas for reading, scientific research or independent study.
Library
The library is a quiet and welcoming space, stocked with books suitable for all ages in the main languages spoken at the school. It is a place that pupils visit in small groups to collect books to share in class. The pupils see it as a space for research, listening and imagination. Each classroom has its own small library.
Outdoor
Green space and garden
The garden is a vital part of school life. Here, the children observe nature, experiment, build shelters, look after the plants and enjoy moments of play and physical activity.
The garden is an integral part of Outdoor Education.
Educational vegetable patch and garden
The vegetable garden is an open-air classroom.
The pupils grow crops, observe the plants as they grow, learn about the cycles of nature and develop a practical understanding of sustainability. It is a place where they learn with their hands and their hearts.
Workshops
Art workshops
The art workshop is a space dedicated to creativity in all its imaginative, expressive and cognitive power. Here, children experiment with different materials, expressive techniques and artistic languages, engaging in activities that enrich projects in other subjects across the curriculum. It is an environment that values personal expression and the freedom to create. The convergence of the languages of art and scientific research is one of the objectives promoted by our school.
Science laboratory
The science laboratory allows pupils to observe natural phenomena, carry out experiments and collect data. It is a place where curiosity becomes a method, and scientific inquiry comes to life through hands-on experiences. It shares the space with the art studio to ensure that children arrive at solutions and discoveries by using different forms of expression in a collaborative way.
Design and Project Management Studio
A space designed for designing, building and coming up with new solutions. The children learn to work in teams, to bring their ideas to life and to use tools that help develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Music workshop
Music, the ultimate form of expression, accompanies children as they grow: rhythm, listening, expression and collaboration. In the music workshop, children explore different instruments and learn to use their voices harmoniously.
Canteen

The dining hall is a space available to all year groups. Meal times are carefully organised to ensure a calm and pleasant atmosphere.
Lunch at school is an educational opportunity.
It is a time when children and young people can enjoy a moment just for themselves, to eat healthily and without rushing, and to gradually become more aware of what it means to eat well. Teachers have lunch with the children and young people, thereby helping to promote both the value of food and the joy of sharing a meal.
The portions are distributed to the pupils by a member of staff trained for this role, who becomes an integral part of school life and ensures continuity in relationships.
